ElevenLabs vs Murf AI: Which Should You Pick?

What each tool is

ElevenLabs offers text to speech, speech to text, sound effects, voice design, music, dubbing, and a Studio for producing audiobooks, podcasts and narrated videos. Its current speech models are Eleven v3, which supports more than 70 languages and is aimed at expressive character and audiobook work; Eleven v3 Conversational with roughly 280 ms latency for agents; Multilingual v2 across 29 languages for professional voiceover; and Flash v2.5 with roughly 75 ms latency across 32 languages at half the per-character price for API generations. Scribe v2 handles transcription in more than 90 languages, with a realtime variant at about 150 ms. Voice cloning comes in two forms: Instant Voice Cloning from under two minutes of audio, and Professional Voice Cloning, which trains a dedicated model from at least 30 minutes of audio, ideally two to three hours, after a live voice verification, with training taking roughly three to six hours.

Murf AI is a text-to-speech studio with more than 200 voices across more than 35 languages, pronunciation controls for pitch, speed and intonation, and a feature called Say It My Way that lets you record a phrase so the AI voice copies your delivery. It adds AI dubbing in more than 40 languages with linguistic review, a voice changer, integrations with Canva, PowerPoint and Adobe Captivate, and Murf Agents for conversational customer service. Its API is built on the Falcon model, which the vendor says reaches sub-100 ms time to first audio. Murf lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA compliance.

Pricing

ElevenLabs bills in credits, where text to speech costs one credit per character on the standard models and Flash is half price through the API. Free is $0 with 10,000 credits a month, no commercial license and no cloning. Starter is $6 a month with 30,000 credits, a commercial license, Instant Voice Cloning and the Dubbing Studio. Creator is $22 a month, or $18.33 a month billed annually, with 121,000 credits and Professional Voice Cloning. Pro is $99 a month or $82.50 annually with 600,000 credits, 44.1 kHz PCM output through the API and 192 kbps audio. Scale is $299 a month or $249.17 annually with 1.8 million credits, three workspace seats and three professional clones. Business is $990 a month or $825 annually with 6 million credits, ten seats, ten professional clones and low-latency text to speech the vendor prices as low as 5 cents a minute. Enterprise is custom with DPAs, SLAs, HIPAA BAAs and SSO. Speech to text costs 330 credits a minute, and dubbing runs from 2,000 to 10,000 credits depending on options. On the API price list, Eleven v3 and Multilingual v2 are $0.08 per 1,000 characters and Flash, Turbo and v3 Conversational are $0.04; Scribe v2 is $0.22 an hour and Scribe v2 Realtime is $0.39.

Murf's studio plans are priced per month on annual billing. Free is $0 with 10 projects, 10 minutes of voice generation and one editor. Creator is $19 a month, $228 a year, with 100 projects, 24 hours of voice generation a year, all 200 or more voices, unlimited downloads and commercial rights. Business is $66 a month, $792 a year, with 500 projects, 96 hours of voice generation a year, a business license, emphasis and variability controls, Say It My Way, the PowerPoint integration and audio to text. Enterprise is custom with unlimited projects and generation, custom seats, sharing and collaboration, AI translation, SSO, custom voice clones and a dedicated success manager. The page notes annual billing saves 33 percent, so monthly billing costs more; check the pricing page for the monthly figure. Murf's API is separate: a free trial with $10 of usage every month and 150 or more voices in 35 or more languages, then pay as you go at $0.01 per 1,000 characters for Falcon, $0.03 per 1,000 for the older Gen-2 model, $0.10 a minute for the voice changer and $0.02 per 1,000 characters for translation, with purchased credit that never expires. Professional voice cloning on the API is an Enterprise feature.

Where ElevenLabs wins

Voice cloning for individuals. Instant cloning starts at $6 a month and Professional Voice Cloning at $22, with a documented process: 30 minutes to three hours of audio, verification, a dedicated model. Murf's custom voice clones are an Enterprise feature on the studio and on the API.

Model range and languages. Eleven v3 covers more than 70 languages, Flash v2.5 runs at about 75 ms for realtime use, and Scribe adds transcription in more than 90 languages. Murf advertises more than 35 languages and one primary API model.

A transparent, cheap API for scale. $0.04 per 1,000 characters on Flash and $0.08 on the flagship models, with credits and seats scaling to 6 million credits on Business and custom beyond. Murf's Falcon is cheaper per character at $0.01, but it is a single model and the studio hours do not transfer to it.

Production beyond voiceover. Studio assigns voices per section for multi-speaker audiobooks and podcasts, imports MP4 or MOV for video narration, generates subtitles in 32 languages, and exports 192 kbps MP3 and 44.1 kHz WAV on Pro. Dubbing, sound effects and music are in the same account.

Where Murf AI wins

Fixed hours instead of characters. Creator's 24 hours and Business's 96 hours a year are easy for a training or marketing team to plan against; ElevenLabs' one credit per character requires you to estimate script length.

Presentation workflows. PowerPoint, Canva and Adobe Captivate integrations put voiceover where slide decks and e-learning are built, and Business includes emphasis, variability and Say It My Way controls for directing delivery without re-recording. ElevenLabs Studio is a general audio and video editor rather than a slide tool.

A business broadcast license and compliance list. Business includes a business license on top of commercial rights, and Murf lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA; ElevenLabs reserves HIPAA BAAs and DPAs for Enterprise.

Cheaper raw API characters. Falcon at $0.01 per 1,000 characters is a quarter of ElevenLabs' Flash rate and an eighth of its v3 rate, and unused purchased credit never expires. For high-volume, single-model synthesis on a budget, that is a real gap.

Who should pick which

Pick ElevenLabs if you need to clone a specific voice below enterprise pricing, want the widest choice of models and languages, are building an agent or app on an API, or produce audiobooks, podcasts or dubbed video. Creator at $22 a month is the sensible start for a solo producer; Pro at $99 for higher fidelity output.

Pick Murf AI if you are a corporate team recording explainers, training modules and presentation voiceovers, want a set number of hours a year, work inside PowerPoint or Canva, and need a business license with a compliance checklist. Creator at $19 a month billed annually covers a light producer; Business at $66 for the delivery controls and 96 hours. Developers who only need cheap synthesis at scale should compare Murf's Falcon API at $0.01 per 1,000 characters with ElevenLabs Flash at $0.04 and decide whether the quality difference matters for the use case.
