SheetAI is still a Google Sheets add-on with AI functions in cells, free if you bring your own API key or $12 a month hosted. Pick SheetAI if you want AI inside Google Sheets; pick Better Analyst if you want to upload files and get analysis, dashboards and scheduled data flows in a separate app.

Formula Bot, the tool many people first met at excelformulabot.com, has changed. Its pricing URL now redirects to betteranalyst.com, and the site states that Formula Bot is now Better Analyst, with the same account and workflows plus analysis, dashboards and automation. The formula generator is still in there, but the product is a chat-first analyst with connected data sources rather than a spreadsheet add-on. SheetAI has stayed close to its original idea: functions like SHEETAI that you type into a Google Sheets cell, with a formula generator sidebar and bulk fill, classify and summarize operations. This comparison sets out what each is in September 2026, what each costs, and which fits which way of working.
Better Analyst (formerly Formula Bot) is a web app where you chat with an AI about uploaded files and connected data sources. Its plan pages list file uploads up to 200 MB, 500 MB or 1 GB depending on tier, automated dashboards, connected data sources, Data Flows that refresh weekly, daily or hourly, PDF to Excel conversion, enrichments and formula generation. Higher tiers add a shared workspace, white-label embeds and row-level security. The site describes data visualization, data preparation, dashboards, automated reporting and text analysis as its core capabilities, and does not mention an Excel or Google Sheets add-on.
SheetAI is a Google Sheets add-on. Its pricing page describes SHEETAI functions you call from cells, a formula generator sidebar, bulk fills, classify and summarize operations, and bulk image, video and music generation through Replicate models. It supports bringing your own keys for OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and Grok, or using SheetAI's hosted AI without any key management.
Better Analyst has a Free plan with limited chat messages and three paid tiers billed monthly. Starter is $20 a month (the first month is discounted to $10) with 250 chat messages a month, 2,500 AI Actions, 2 automated dashboards, 2 connected data sources, unlimited uploads up to 200 MB with 20 files per chat, and 1 Data Flow refreshing weekly for Google Sheets only. Max is $40 per person a month (first month $20) with unlimited chat, 5,000 AI Actions per person, 10 dashboards, 10 connected sources, 500 MB uploads with 25 files per chat, a shared workspace and 5 Data Flows refreshing daily across Sheets and databases. Business is $80 per person a month (first month $40) with 15,000 AI Actions per person, 20 dashboards, 50 connected sources, 1 GB uploads with 60 files per chat, white-label embeds, row-level security and 20 Data Flows refreshing hourly to all destinations.
SheetAI has a BYOK plan that is free forever: you supply your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or Grok key and get unlimited SHEETAI calls and unlimited formula generation, paying only your own AI and Replicate costs. Starter is $12 a month for up to about 500 AI runs a month on hosted AI with no key required, plus the formula generator sidebar and email support. Pro is $29 a month or $290 a year with higher, soft-unlimited AI usage, bulk media generation, bulk fills, classify and summarize, BYOK multimodel access and priority support. One-time credit packs run from $29 to $299 for token bundles with no subscription.
Better Analyst wins when the work is analysis rather than cell-level automation. Upload a 200 MB file, or connect a database, and ask questions in chat; get charts, a scheduled dashboard and a report. Data Flows that pull from Sheets or databases weekly, daily or hourly, and automated dashboards, are things SheetAI does not attempt.
It also wins for teams that share and embed results. Max adds a shared workspace and Business adds white-label embeds and row-level security, which turns it into a light reporting layer you can put in front of clients. PDF to Excel conversion and enrichments are useful extras for operations teams.
SheetAI wins if you live in Google Sheets. Calling an AI function in a cell, dragging it down a column, and having the result sit next to your other formulas is a fundamentally different workflow from chatting in a separate app, and it is the one most spreadsheet people want for classification, summarization, cleanup and enrichment of existing rows.
It also wins on cost for individuals. The BYOK plan is free with unlimited calls if you already have an OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or Grok key, and the hosted Starter plan is $12 a month with no per-seat pricing. Bulk media generation through Replicate is a niche capability Better Analyst does not list.
Pick SheetAI if your data already lives in Google Sheets and you want AI to fill, classify and summarize cells in place, especially if you are happy to bring your own API key and pay nothing to SheetAI, or if $12 to $29 a month is the right budget.
Pick Better Analyst if you want a chat-based analyst that connects to data sources, builds dashboards and refreshes them on a schedule, and if you need to share or embed those dashboards. The Starter plan caps chat at 250 messages a month and limits Data Flows to Google Sheets, so teams doing real reporting will land on Max at $40 per person. If you want the old formula generator experience inside Excel, neither product advertises an Excel add-on today.
