QuillBot is broader, with a large set of tools around its Paraphraser. Wordtune is narrower and more polished at one job: offering alternative phrasings of the sentence you just wrote, in the tone you want.

QuillBot is a suite of writing tools built around its Paraphraser, which rewrites text in multiple modes and, on Premium, in a custom mode you define. Alongside it are a grammar checker, a summarizer, an AI detector, an AI humanizer, a plagiarism checker, a citation generator and a translator. The vendor's own FAQ describes the citation generator, AI detector and translator as free, and the grammar checker and paraphraser as free with limited access. Premium paraphrases in 23 languages and translates into more than 40. There is a Team plan with usage metrics, user management, centralized billing and data controls.
Wordtune describes itself as an AI writing assistant that is empowering, not overpowering. Its core feature is Rewrite: select a sentence and get alternatives, then switch between casual and formal tone, shorten or expand. Spices add content such as elaborating on a point, proposing an alternate viewpoint or explaining in more detail, and Continue Writing helps with blocks. It also has a summarizer for documents, articles, web pages and YouTube videos, grammar and spelling checking, a smart synonym generator and Smart Translate, which brings text from ten languages including Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, Korean and German into English. It runs as a Chrome extension and is shown working in Edge, Word, Outlook, iOS and Android.

Advanced is $6.99 a month, or $4.89 a month billed annually, with 30 rewrites a day and 15 summarizations a month. Unlimited is $9.99 a month, or $6.99 a month billed annually, with unlimited rewrites and summarizations, vocabulary enhancements, clarity and fluency improvements and premium support. The rewriting experience is more focused on the act of writing. Wordtune's Rewrite works on the sentence under your cursor in Word, Outlook and the browser, with casual and formal tone, shorten and expand as one-click options, and Spices for adding substance. Its Continue Writing feature helps you move forward rather than only rework what exists. QuillBot's paraphraser is powerful, but the workflow is more often paste, process, copy back.
The summarizer accepts YouTube videos as well as documents, articles and web pages, which QuillBot's summarizer, with its focus on text, does not advertise. Wordtune's free plan also includes unlimited spelling and grammar corrections, so the day-to-day proofreading is not metered even before you pay.
Pick QuillBot if you write academically or professionally and need paraphrasing plus citations, plagiarism checks, AI detection and summaries in one subscription, or if you work in languages other than English. It is the more complete toolkit and its free tools are worth having even if you pay for something else.
Pick Wordtune if your writing is mostly email, messages and short documents in English and what you want is better sentences with less effort, at a lower price. Its in-app rewrite flow is the smoother daily companion, and the Unlimited plan at $6.99 a month on an annual commitment is hard to beat for that job.
