QuillBot is a paraphrasing and writing assistant best known for its Paraphraser, alongside a grammar checker, summarizer, plagiarism checker, AI detector and translator. Most tools have a free tier: the free Paraphraser handles up to 125 words at a time in two modes (Standard and Fluency), and the free Summarizer accepts up to 1,200 words. QuillBot Premium removes those caps, unlocks all nine paraphrasing modes and custom modes, and raises the Summarizer limit to 6,000 words. QuillBot's own blog lists Premium at $19.95 a month, $39.95 billed every three months (which it presents as $13.31 a month), or $99.95 a year (presented as $8.33 a month).
The 125-word ceiling on the free Paraphraser is what sends most people searching. Anything longer has to be pasted in chunks, and the two free modes are the least controllable ones, so getting a useful rewrite of a full paragraph usually means paying. The month-to-month price of $19.95 is high for a rewriting tool when several competitors bundle rewriting into a broader grammar or drafting product for less, and the deep discount for annual billing means casual users either overpay or commit to a year.
The second issue is scope. QuillBot rewrites, summarizes and checks text you already have; it is not designed to draft articles, emails or marketing copy from a brief. Writers who need generation as well as rewriting, teams that want a shared brand voice, or students and novelists who want long-form editing reports often find one of the tools below covers more ground for a similar or lower price.

Best for: Anyone who wants rewriting, tone adjustment and grammar checking everywhere they type, from one subscription.
Grammarly runs as a browser extension and desktop app across email, documents and web forms, so its rewrite and tone tools appear wherever you write rather than in a separate paste box. The free plan includes grammar and spelling, tone detection and 100 AI prompts a month, but paraphrasing is a paid feature. Grammarly Pro is $12 a month and adds paraphrasing, tone adjustment, plagiarism detection, AI-generated text detection, citation management and 2,000 AI prompts per member a month. That is cheaper than QuillBot's monthly Premium price with a wider toolset, though QuillBot's annual plan is cheaper still.
Best for: Budget users who want sentence-level rewrites with a free daily allowance and no word cap per rewrite.
Wordtune focuses on rewriting sentences in place, with options to make text more casual, formal, shorter or longer, plus AI summaries of articles and documents. The Basic plan is free with 10 rewrites a day and 3 AI summaries a month; Advanced is $6.99 a month (or $4.89 a month billed annually) for 30 rewrites a day and 15 summaries a month; Unlimited is $9.99 a month (or $6.99 a month annually) with unlimited rewrites and summaries. Its free tier meters by count rather than QuillBot's 125-word chunk, and its paid tiers are well under QuillBot's monthly price.
Best for: Fiction writers and students who want in-depth editing reports and the option of a lifetime license.
ProWritingAid goes beyond rewriting into more than 25 writing analysis reports, a custom style guide, chapter critiques and story-structure tools. The free plan handles 500 words at a time with 10 rephrases a day, four times QuillBot's free paraphrase window. Premium is $30 a month, $120 a year or $399 for a lifetime license, with unlimited words and rephrases; Premium Pro is $36 a month, $144 a year or $699 lifetime, adding 30 chapter critiques a day and access to expert workshops. The lifetime option has no equivalent at QuillBot.
Best for: Writers who care about readability and want a clear, distraction-free editor with AI rewrites as an add-on.
Hemingway Editor highlights long sentences, passive voice, adverbs and complex words, and its free web editor still does that without an account. Hemingway Editor Plus adds AI-powered sentence rewrites and grammar fixes for $10 a month or $100 a year, which Hemingway presents as $8.33 a month, with a two-week trial that needs no payment details. Each AI rewrite consumes one of a monthly allotment of AI sentences, while grammar fixes are unlimited; the team plan gives each member 10,000 AI sentences a month. It is a cheaper, calmer alternative for people who use QuillBot mainly to tighten prose.

Best for: Freelancers who want cheap unlimited generation and rewriting for short-form copy.
Rytr is a lightweight AI writer with templates for emails, ads, blog outlines and product descriptions, plus a rewriter and a plagiarism checker. The free plan allows 10,000 characters a month; Unlimited is $7.50 a month for unlimited generations, one tone match and 50 plagiarism checks a month; Premium is $24.16 a month for more than 35 languages, multiple tone matches, 100 plagiarism checks and custom use cases, with 20 percent off for annual billing. It drafts as well as rewrites, which QuillBot does not, and its Unlimited plan costs less than half of QuillBot's monthly Premium price.
Best for: Marketing teams that need on-brand long-form content, brand voices and agent-driven workflows.
Jasper is a marketing content platform rather than a rewriting tool: it drafts campaigns, blog posts and emails in a stored brand voice, edits images, and offers purpose-built agents for marketing workflows. Jasper Pro is $69 a month per seat, or $59 a month per seat on annual billing, with 2 brand voices, 5 knowledge assets, 3 audiences and a browser extension, after a 7-day free trial; the Business plan is custom priced with a 12-month minimum and adds a no-code agent builder, API access and SSO. It costs several times QuillBot Premium, so it only makes sense if drafting and brand consistency are the real job.

Best for: Small teams that want a shared chat workspace with access to several AI models for drafting and rewriting.
Copy.ai's self-serve Chat plan is a team workspace with unlimited chat projects and access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models, so you can rewrite, summarize or draft in one thread. It is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed annually ($288 a year), and includes 5 seats, which works out cheaper per person than QuillBot Premium for a small team. Larger Growth, Expansion and Scale tiers start at $1,000 a month on annual billing and add workflow credits for automated content pipelines. Copy.ai lacks QuillBot's dedicated paraphrasing modes but replaces them with general-purpose model access.
For most individuals, Grammarly Pro at $12 a month is the strongest replacement because it adds paraphrasing and tone rewriting to a grammar checker that works everywhere you type. Wordtune is the pick if you want the lowest monthly price for sentence rewrites, ProWritingAid if you write long-form fiction or academic work and like the idea of a lifetime license, and Rytr or Copy.ai if you need drafting as well as rewriting. Jasper is only worth the jump for marketing teams that need brand voices and workflows.
