About Baby AGI
This project is an experimental Python framework for a self building autonomous agent. Its core is a function framework that stores, manages and executes functions from a database, with a graph structure that tracks imports, dependent functions and authentication secrets, automatic loading and detailed logging. A bundled dashboard covers managing functions, running updates and reading logs. Installation is a single package manager command, after which the dashboard can be mounted into a Python web application.
The audience is developers and researchers interested in agent architecture rather than teams looking for a finished tool. The premise behind it is that the most workable route to a general autonomous agent is to build the simplest thing capable of building itself, so the repository exists to share that idea, provoke discussion and give experienced developers something to take apart. The author states plainly that the framework is not meant for production use and that it was built by someone who has never worked as a professional developer.
The code is free and open source on GitHub, with no paid tier, hosted service or subscription. Running costs come only from whichever model provider you point it at.
One point is worth knowing before choosing it. The original release from March 2023, which popularized task planning loops for autonomous agents, was archived in September 2024 and moved to a separate archive repository. What lives at this address now is a newer and substantially different framework built around the function store, so documentation and tutorials written for the earlier version do not apply.
