About Casetext
Casetext no longer exists as a standalone product. Its website now redirects to Thomson Reuters CoCounsel, the AI assistant that Casetext originally built and that Thomson Reuters has since made the center of its professional AI lineup. CoCounsel Legal reasons through a legal matter step by step from a single query, running research, analysis and drafting in one workflow, grounding answers in Westlaw primary law, Practical Law guidance and the firm's own documents, and returning cited work product with linked references and visible reasoning that a lawyer can inspect.
It serves law firms from solo practice to large firms, corporate legal departments and government agencies, with parallel CoCounsel editions for tax, audit and accounting professionals. Integrations cover iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint and Box for documents; Litify and Smokeball for case management; HighQ, Microsoft Teams, Word and Outlook for daily work; and Claude via MCP. Thomson Reuters states that user data is never used to train models and that retention policies can be customized.
Pricing is not published. Thomson Reuters lists four packages, CoCounsel Legal, CoCounsel Essentials, Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials, and Practical Law Dynamic Tool Set with CoCounsel Essentials, but the pricing pages ask for details about the buyer's role before showing figures, and firms with more than ten attorneys are directed to a sales representative. Two and three year terms are discounted against the one year option.
Buyers searching for Casetext should evaluate CoCounsel; the earlier Casetext research tools are no longer offered under that name.
