About Gitlab Code Suggestions
GitLab Code Suggestions is the AI code authoring capability inside GitLab Duo. It completes code as a developer types and generates larger blocks from a natural language comment, drawing on the context GitLab already holds about the project rather than on the open editor buffer alone. Because it lives in the same platform as the repository, issues, pipelines and security scans, suggestions arrive inside the workflow that will review and ship them.
It is intended for engineering organizations that want AI assistance without giving up governance. Code Suggestions sits inside the wider GitLab Duo Agent Platform, which adds specialized agents for planning, coding, security analysis and analytics, an AI Catalog where teams publish and manage agents and flows, and automation that can be triggered by a GitLab event or a schedule. External agents including Claude Code and Codex can be integrated into the same workflow. Policies, approvals and scanning apply to agent authored changes exactly as they do to human ones, findings land in the merge request, and every agent action is written to the audit trail. The platform is available on GitLab.com, on self managed instances and as single tenant Dedicated hosting.
The Free tier is $0 per user per month and reaches AI features only through the purchase of the GitLab Credits add on. Premium is $29 per user per month billed annually and includes $12 of GitLab Credits per user per month. Ultimate is quoted individually and includes $24 of credits per user per month. Credits are listed at $1 each, with volume discounts available on an annual commitment, and on demand usage beyond a reserved amount bills at that list rate.
GitLab also offers Flex, a single annual commitment that can be steered between seat licenses and usage credits without renegotiating a contract.
