About Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant, available as a free app on the web, Windows, iOS and Android and as a paid layer inside Microsoft 365. The consumer app answers questions, drafts and edits content, searches the web and your files, and runs longer tasks on your behalf. The work edition, Microsoft 365 Copilot, sits inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams and grounds its answers in company data through what Microsoft calls Work IQ.
The free app is for anyone with a Microsoft account. Its named modes are Chat, Create, Search, Notebook (formerly Project), Cowork (formerly Tasks), Researcher (formerly Deep Research) and Guided Learning. Business and enterprise customers get prebuilt agents named Researcher, Analyst and Facilitator, a choice of underlying models, Agent Builder for custom assistants, Copilot Studio for managing agents, Copilot Code for building apps without code, and Autopilot, a background agent. Deployment covers desktop, mobile and web.
Copilot itself is free with a signed in Microsoft account, with usage limits on some features. Individuals get higher limits through Microsoft 365 Personal at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, Microsoft 365 Family at $12.99 per month or $129.99 per year (AI for the subscription owner only), and Microsoft 365 Premium at $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year, which adds Copilot inside the desktop Office apps and agents that produce cited research reports and data analysis. For organizations, Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is $18.00 per user per month paid yearly, reduced from $21.00; Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot is $23.50 and Business Premium with Copilot is $32.00 per user per month paid yearly; and the enterprise Microsoft 365 Copilot add on is $30.00 per user per month paid yearly.
The copilot.microsoft.com address now redirects to copilot.com, and Microsoft has renamed several consumer features, so older guides may use names that no longer appear in the app.
