Facts checked against both vendors on September 28, 2026.
Cursor is for developers who want an AI agent inside a professional desktop editor, working on code they own and deploy elsewhere. Replit is for people who want the agent, the editor, the database and the hosting in one browser tab, from a blank prompt to a published app. Experienced engineers on existing codebases should pick Cursor; anyone who wants to go from idea to a live app without setting up infrastructure should pick Replit.

AI-enhanced code editor with predictive edits and natural language commands.
Cursor and Replit both sell an AI agent that writes software, but they answer different questions. Cursor asks how to make an engineer faster in a repository that already exists. Replit asks how to get a working, hosted application out of a description, with the runtime, database and deployment handled for you.
The pricing models reflect that. Cursor charges for model usage inside an editor. Replit charges for model usage plus the cloud resources your app consumes. Everything below comes from each vendor's own pricing and documentation pages as of September 2026.
Cursor is a desktop editor whose vendor calls it a coding agent for building ambitious software. Its product pages list Agents in the editor, Cloud Agents that run autonomously and in parallel on their own machines, a CLI that also works in Slack and reviews pull requests on GitHub, Automations for scheduled or triggered agents, a Plan Mode and Bugbot for code review. Models come from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, SpaceXAI and Cursor's own Composer line, and it extends through MCP servers, plugins, skills and rules.
Replit is a browser-based development platform with Replit Agent at its center. Its docs describe the Agent as taking action rather than only answering: it sets up the project, creates the application, checks its work and fixes problems, covering code, infrastructure, testing and deployment. It builds web apps, mobile apps, data dashboards and AI tools, plus visual designs and prototypes, in one project. The Agent has Free Mode for everyday work within your plan, Power Mode and Max Mode for heavier tasks, and a Plan Mode to map out work before any code changes. Connectors include BigQuery, Linear, Slack and Notion. Published apps, databases and object storage run on Replit's infrastructure.
Cursor's Hobby plan is free with limited Agent requests and access to Composer. Pro is $20 a month, Pro Plus $60 a month and Ultra $200 a month. Cursor's docs describe two monthly usage pools, one for Composer and Grok models with significantly more included usage and one for third-party models charged at API rates; beyond that you continue on pay-as-you-go at the same rates. Teams is $40 per user a month on Standard and $120 per user a month on Premium, which has five times the Agent limits, and adds centralized billing, Bugbot reviews, usage analytics and SAML or OIDC SSO. Enterprise is custom.
Replit's Starter plan is free with daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap, monthly cloud credits for databases, object storage and publishing, 2 GB of workspace storage, one published app with a Made with Replit badge, and the Lite build only. Core is $20 a month, or $18 a month billed annually, with $20 towards the most powerful models, up to 30 hours of chat and 60 projects on Free Mode, Plan Mode, unlimited workspaces, Full build, unlimited published apps and connectors. Pro is $100 a month, or $90 a month billed annually, with $100 towards models, 10 parallel agents, up to 15 collaborators, up to 50 viewers, database rollback up to 28 days and premium support. Enterprise is custom with SSO or SAML, single-tenant environments and static outbound IPs.
It is a professional editor. Cursor is a full desktop IDE with your local toolchain, your language servers and your git remote, so it works on any codebase in any language you already build. Replit's workspace runs in the browser on Replit's infrastructure, which is convenient but means your project lives inside Replit's environment.
The agent tooling is deeper for engineering work. Cloud Agents run in parallel and demo features end to end, Automations keep agents running on schedules, Bugbot reviews pull requests with custom rules and opens fixes in the editor, and the CLI reaches into Slack and GitHub.
Model choice and usage control are more granular: frontier models from four labs plus Composer, separate usage pools, three individual tiers and two team tiers. Enterprise adds repository, model and MCP allowlists, auto-run, browser and network controls, audit logs and an AI code tracking API.
Nothing to install and nothing to provision. Replit Agent builds the app, creates the database, wires authentication and publishes it, all from a browser. Core includes a production database, object storage and publishing credits, and Pro adds database rollback up to 28 days.
The free tier does more for a beginner. Starter gives daily Agent credits, cloud credits, 2 GB of storage and one published app, so you can ship something live without paying.
Collaboration is built in. Pro supports up to 15 collaborators and 50 viewers in the same project, so a designer, a product manager and a developer can work on one live app. Connectors to BigQuery, Linear, Slack and Notion let the Agent pull data from those services from chat. Annual billing also gives a discount: Core drops to $18 a month and Pro to $90 a month, where Cursor's public pricing lists monthly figures only.
Pick Cursor if you are a working engineer with an existing repository, a local toolchain and your own deployment pipeline. Pick it for parallel Cloud Agents, Bugbot reviews, scheduled Automations and enterprise controls over models and MCP servers. It is the tool for making a professional team faster on code it already owns.
Pick Replit if you want to go from a prompt to a hosted app without touching infrastructure, if you are prototyping, teaching, or building internal tools, or if your team includes people who are not full-time developers.
Built from each tool's listing. Vendors can update their own listing after claiming it.
