Facts checked against both vendors on October 13, 2026.
Choose Notion AI if the material you need answered from already lives in Notion pages and databases, or in apps Notion connects to such as Slack, Google Drive and GitHub, and your team will pay for the Business plan at 20 US dollars per member a month. Choose ChatGPT if the work is open-ended, such as drafting, analysis or coding, and does not depend on an existing workspace, or if you want a low-cost entry point: Free is 0 US dollars a month and Plus is 20 US dollars a month. The two answer different questions: Notion AI answers from your content, ChatGPT answers from its models plus whatever you hand it. ChatGPT's own chat-app pages blocked automated access, so its memory and connector features for the chat app could not be confirmed here.

Enhance productivity with AI-driven content generation and analysis.
Notion AI and ChatGPT are not interchangeable. Notion AI is built into a workspace of pages, databases and meeting notes, and its main value is that the assistant can work from content your team has already written. ChatGPT is a general assistant from OpenAI that starts every job without knowledge of your documents unless you supply it. Figures below come from each vendor's own pages as read on 13 October 2026. Notion's product and pricing pages loaded. The chatgpt.com home page returned an access error to a standard fetch and a verification challenge to a headless browser, so ChatGPT plan details come from OpenAI's documentation page at learn.chatgpt.com, which is written around its Codex coding tool rather than the chat app.
Notion's AI page describes Notion Agent as taking on multi-step tasks using workspace and connected-app context to create and edit pages and databases. Enterprise Search is described as searching connected apps and answering with citations. The page names Slack, Google Drive and GitHub, plus more. Verified pages get a badge that shows in search results and AI citations, which is a way to steer answers toward content a team trusts. The practical consequence is that a question like what the team decided about the pricing change is answered from your own documents, and the edit lands in the same workspace.
ChatGPT starts from a different place. Nothing on the pages that could be read describes it as holding your company documents by default. Its documentation page lists plugins, connectors, skills and MCP as Codex features and lists memory as limited, but it does not clearly map connectors to each plan and does not describe connectors in the chat app. Whether ChatGPT's chat app can connect to your workspace tools, and how its memory works day to day, therefore has to be checked on a live account.
That is the decision. If the answer already sits in your workspace, Notion AI has the structural advantage. If the question is open-ended and the answer is not in a workspace, ChatGPT is the broader tool, and Notion's page does not claim otherwise.
Notion AI is not sold as a separate per-seat add-on on the pages read. Notion's pricing page lists Free at 0 US dollars, Plus at 10 US dollars and Business at 20 US dollars per member a month, with Enterprise custom priced. Free and Plus carry a limited trial of Notion AI. Business includes Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search, and Enterprise adds zero data retention with model providers. All prices are in US dollars and yearly billing saves up to 20 percent. The Plus plan is free for students and educators, limited to one member.
Two caveats apply. First, Enterprise Search is labelled Beta on both pages. Second, Custom Agents, which run on a trigger or schedule, are free to try and then cost 10 US dollars per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. The AI page says Custom Agents were free on Business and Enterprise through 3 May 2026 and consume credits from 4 May 2026, pausing when credits run out. The pricing page does not list a credit allowance per plan, so the monthly cost of heavy agent use cannot be calculated from it. The pricing page's own table also left some cells ambiguous about which plans include Custom Agents, so that should be confirmed before purchase.
OpenAI's pricing documentation lists Free at 0 US dollars a month, Go at 8 US dollars, Plus at 20 US dollars, and Pro from 100 US dollars with tiers at 100, 200 and 500 US dollars a month. Business is 20 US dollars per user per month billed annually for two or more users, or 25 US dollars per user per month billed monthly. Enterprise and Edu are contact-sales. This matches the figures in the existing ChatGPT and DeepSeek comparison, which was written from the same page.
The page's limits are for Codex. On Plus and standard Business, local messages are counted per five-hour period, for example 15 to 160 for GPT-6.1 Sol and 350 to 3,000 for GPT-6 Luna. Pro has no five-hour limit and weekly limits may apply to all plans. Plus and Pro can buy credits for extra use. Those figures describe coding usage and should not be read as chat limits. Business is described as a dedicated workspace with essential admin controls, SAML SSO and MFA, and no training on business data by default.
For team use the price lines are close: 20 US dollars per seat on annual billing for ChatGPT Business and 20 US dollars per member for Notion Business. They are not the same purchase. One buys a general assistant and the other a workspace with AI built in, so the comparison is only about cost if the team would otherwise use both.
Notion's AI page states it does not train its models on customer data unless the customer opts in to share it. Non-Enterprise plans have 30-day retention with model providers, and Enterprise has zero data retention. Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or greater. The page lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and CCPA alignment, with HIPAA available on Enterprise.
On the ChatGPT side, the only data statement read was that Business has no training on business data by default. OpenAI's consumer privacy policy and help pages could not be reached, so how Free, Go, Plus and Pro treat data was not confirmed. Anyone choosing between them for sensitive material should read OpenAI's current terms for the specific plan.
The workspace model also changes what a leak looks like. A tool that searches across connected apps can surface anything the user can reach, and Notion's own page lists custom permissions and admin controls over who can create agents. Permissions should be reviewed before connecting Slack or Drive to any assistant.
Notion's AI page lists model switching across providers as a governance feature, along with usage and analytics dashboards. Research Mode produces detailed reports, AI blocks draft and improve text inside pages, and database features include Autofill and formula writing. Notion AI Meeting Notes transcribe and summarize meetings and the page says no bot is needed.
ChatGPT's pages read here describe a family of models across tiers, with Free and Go on GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app, subject to rollout, and Plus adding GPT-6.1 Sol. The documentation table is not fully consistent: the Plus feature row names GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, while its limits table also lists GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol rows for Plus. Voice is priced at 0.05 US dollars per minute in the desktop app on individual plans. Quality on either side has to be tested on the reader's own tasks; the pages read do not support a ranking.
Built from each tool's listing. Vendors can update their own listing after claiming it.
Notion Free is 0 US dollars with a limited AI trial. Plus is 10 US dollars per member a month, also a trial. Business is 20 US dollars per member a month and includes Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search (Beta). Enterprise is custom, with zero data retention. Custom Agents are free to try, then 10 US dollars per 1,000 monthly credits. Yearly billing saves up to 20 percent.
ChatGPT lists Free at 0 US dollars a month, Go at 8, Plus at 20, and Pro from 100 (100, 200 and 500). Business is 20 US dollars per user per month billed annually for two or more users, or 25 monthly. Enterprise and Edu are contact-sales. These come from OpenAI's Codex-focused pricing page, as chatgpt.com blocked access.
