About Amazon Translate
Amazon Translate is the neural machine translation service in Amazon Web Services. Applications call an API to translate text between languages, either in real time for chat, email, helpdesk and ticketing traffic, or in asynchronous batch jobs that process large document sets. Real time document translation accepts text, HTML and Docx files and returns them with the original formatting intact.
It is designed for engineering teams that need to localize content or read foreign language input at scale: translating user generated content such as reviews, profiles and comments, analyzing multilingual conversations with other AWS natural language services, and building cross lingual chat. AWS states support for 75 languages and 5,550 translation combinations. Custom Terminology lets a team fix how brand names, product names and industry terms are rendered, and Active Custom Translation lets customers supply parallel data so output matches their own style without training or maintaining a custom model. Access is controlled through AWS Identity and Access Management.
Pricing is pay as you go per million characters. Standard text translation, batch document translation and real time text and HTML document translation cost $15.00 per million characters; real time Docx translation costs $30.00; Active Custom Translation costs $60.00. The free tier covers two million characters per month for twelve months on standard and batch translation, and 500,000 characters per month for two months on Active Custom Translation, while real time document translation has no free tier. Each account receives 200 GB of parallel data storage free, with $0.023 per GB per month beyond that, and AWS offers volume discounts above one billion characters a month.
