About LM Studio
LM Studio is a desktop application for running large language models locally, and its current home page is built around Bionic, an agent for work and code. Bionic creates and edits documents, slides and PDFs, writes software, handles automations and can control the computer, using either local models or hosted open models. Models are downloaded inside the app and run on the LM Studio runtime, which uses MLX and llama.cpp.
It is aimed at individuals and teams who want agent capabilities with open models and local processing. Real time voice transcription runs on the device, and the site states that voice and audio data never leaves it. For heavier tasks Bionic can use hosted open models, with the site naming GLM, Kimi and DeepSeek families. Cloud inference is US hosted with zero data retention. LM Link connects up to five devices, and an enterprise page covers organizations and team billing.
Pricing is published. The Free plan is $0 and includes the Bionic agent, local models, offline voice transcription, LM Link for up to 5 devices and limited web search. Bionic+ is $20 USD per month and adds US hosted open source models, discounted bulk tokens, and web search with page extraction. Pro is $100 USD per month with 5 times the usage limits and early access to new features. Team subscription plans are listed as coming soon, while centralized billing for inference credits is available now.
