About Sonia
Sonia is a mental health app built around spoken conversation. You talk through what is on your mind and the app responds in voice, with text available when speaking is not practical, drawing on techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. Sessions are designed to be short and to finish with something concrete to try in daily life, and the app keeps a memory across sessions so progress does not have to be re explained each time. Several voices and personas are available.
The audience is people for whom cost, time or stigma has kept formal care out of reach, and the company is explicit about the boundaries. Sonia is not a diagnosis, a cure, a replacement for a clinician or a crisis service. When a conversation crosses a threshold suggesting someone needs more support than the app is built to give, the system ends it and points the person toward real resources including emergency services. Alongside the consumer app, Sonia Health runs a separate product called Sonia Care that pairs AI with licensed clinicians, and works with employers, benefits brokers, provider groups, health plans and health systems.
The company publishes its research rather than summarizing it. A 400 person randomized controlled trial, pre registered and approved by an institutional review board, was run and independently analyzed by academic researchers and released as a preprint that has not yet been peer reviewed. A cluster analysis from that trial found no significant outcome difference between sporadic and heavy users.
Pricing is not published on the website. New users start with a free trial, nothing is charged during it, and plans are chosen inside the app itself, where subscriptions can also be managed or cancelled from settings.
