Leonardo.Ai is an image and video generation workspace with its own models, custom model training, a canvas editor and image-to-video tools, aimed at game art, concept design and marketing visuals. The free plan gives 150 fast tokens a day that do not accumulate. The paid tiers are Essential at $12 a month (or $10 a month billed yearly) for 8,500 tokens a month, Premium at $30 a month (or $24 a month yearly) for 25,000 tokens plus unlimited relaxed image generation, and Ultimate at $60 a month (or $48 a month yearly) for 60,000 tokens plus unlimited relaxed image and video generation. Unused tokens roll into a bank holding up to three months of allowance.
Everything in Leonardo is metered in tokens, and the cost of a generation depends on the model, resolution and features you switch on, so the 8,500 tokens on Essential can disappear quickly once you use the newer models, upscaling or video. Unlimited generation exists, but only in relaxed mode and only from Premium at $30 a month for images and Ultimate at $60 a month for video. The free tier's 150 daily tokens are decent for images but do not stretch to video, and Leonardo's API is now billed pay-as-you-go separately from the subscription, so developers pay twice if they want both the app and the API.
People also leave for reasons of fit. Leonardo's strength is a deep toolset for people who want to train models and iterate on a canvas; if you mainly need clean typography in images, a simple free tier, integration with a design suite, or a specific third-party model, a narrower tool can be cheaper and less complicated.
Built from each tool's listing. Vendors can update their own listing after claiming it.
Best for: Designers who need readable text in images for posters, logos, thumbnails and social graphics.
Ideogram is the specialist for typography inside generated images, an area where general models still stumble. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 10 slow credits a week, Basic at $8 a month for 400 priority credits, Plus at $20 a month for 1,000 priority credits and Pro at $60 a month for 3,500 priority credits, with annual discounts of up to 20 percent. Subscription priority credits expire at the end of each cycle, unlike Leonardo's token bank, but purchased top-ups carry over. It is cheaper than Leonardo at the entry level and better for text, at the cost of Leonardo's model training and video tools.
Best for: Artists who want the most distinctive stylized output and are comfortable with a community-driven workflow.
Midjourney generates images and video with a strong house aesthetic and a large library of style references. Its documentation lists four subscription tiers, Basic, Standard, Pro and Mega, each with a monthly allowance of fast GPU hours that does not carry over, a 20 percent discount for annual plans, and additional fast hours at $4 an hour; Stealth Mode for private images and video is limited to Pro and Mega. The plan comparison page blocks automated access, so check the vendor's pricing page for current prices. Midjourney lacks Leonardo's custom model training and canvas, but many users find its default output needs less prompting.
Best for: Creators who want real-time generation, an enhancer and dozens of image and video models under one subscription.
Krea is a multi-model studio with real-time generation, upscaling, video models, LoRA training and a node-based workflow builder, so it overlaps heavily with Leonardo's feature set. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 100 compute units a day, Basic at $9 a month (or $5 a month billed yearly) for 5,000 units, Pro at $35 a month for 20,000 units and all video models, and Max at $105 a month for 60,000 units with unlimited relaxed generation and unlimited LoRA training on up to 2,000 images. Units do not roll over on individual plans, which is the main disadvantage against Leonardo's three-month token bank.
Best for: Professionals who need commercially safe generation integrated with Photoshop, Illustrator and Express.
Adobe Firefly generates images, vectors, video and audio inside the Firefly app and across Creative Cloud, with Adobe's own models positioned as commercially safe and partner models available in the same interface. Adobe's plans page lists a free tier with daily limits, Firefly Standard at US$9.99 a month for 2,000 generative credits, and Pro, Pro Plus and Premium tiers with 4,000, 10,000 and 50,000 credits a month; Adobe displays prices in local currency, so check the plans page for your region. The Pro plan also includes Adobe Express Premium and Photoshop on web and mobile, which is a lot of editing capability that Leonardo does not offer.
Best for: Beginners who want an easy free plan, templates and a flat-price unlimited option.
Playground pairs a template-driven design editor with access to several third-party image models, including Nano Banana, GPT Image and Seedream. The free plan allows up to 10 images every 3 hours; Pro is $15 a month (or $12 a month with the annual discount) for up to 75 images every 3 hours, 150 credits and 2K editing; Pro Plus is $45 a month (or $36 a month annually) for unlimited image generations, 1,000 credits, 4K editing and unlimited upscaling. Every tier includes a worldwide royalty-free commercial license. It is simpler than Leonardo and its unlimited plan costs less than Leonardo's Ultimate, but there is no model training.

Best for: Marketing teams that want generated images placed directly into layouts and brand templates.
Canva's AI image generation lives inside its design editor, so output goes straight into a presentation, post or print layout. Canva Free includes up to 20 uses of its Standard or Premium AI tools a month, and Canva Pro is $144 a year (presented as $12 a month) with up to 200 uses of Premium AI tools or 20 uses of Ultra AI tools a month, plus Standard AI tools that do not count against the allowance. It cannot match Leonardo's control over models and settings, but for teams whose end product is a designed asset rather than a raw image, it removes a step.
Best for: Hobbyists who want daily free credits, community challenges and access to many models without a subscription.
NightCafe is a community-oriented generator that gives every account 5 free credits each day you log in, plus another 3 credits a day for entering and voting in the daily challenge, so casual users can create regularly without paying. It supports a range of open and commercial models and offers monthly, quarterly and annual paid plans with an annual promotion of six months free at the time of checking. The plan table on the pricing page is rendered dynamically, so check the vendor's pricing page for current tier names and prices. It suits people who found Leonardo's interface and token accounting more than they needed.
Krea is the closest feature match if you want model training, real-time tools and video from one plan, while Ideogram is the better and cheaper choice when text in images is the priority. Choose Adobe Firefly for commercially safe output inside Creative Cloud, Midjourney for the strongest stylized results, and Playground or NightCafe if you want a lighter tool with a usable free tier and simpler pricing.
