About NotebookLM
This is Google's source grounded research tool. You upload the documents, notes, slides, articles and other material you trust, and it answers questions, summarizes and draws connections using only those sources, citing where each statement came from. The aim is a research and thinking partner that stays anchored to your own material instead of generating from open ended world knowledge, which reduces the chance of invented facts.
It suits students, researchers, analysts and professionals who work through large volumes of reading. Beyond question and answer, it turns a source collection into other formats: Audio Overviews that play a spoken, podcast style discussion of the material, Video Overviews, mind maps, reports, flashcards, quizzes, data tables, infographics and slide decks. Featured public notebooks let newcomers try the workflow on prepared source sets before building their own. It runs on the web and on mobile, and it is built on current Gemini models. Google states that content is not used for generative model training unless feedback is shared, and that uploads, queries and responses from Workspace users are excluded from training even when feedback is submitted.
Pricing is not published on the product site in readable form. A plans page covering premium options exists, but it renders its contents with JavaScript and lists no amounts that can be quoted.
One point matters before choosing it: the product was renamed. Google states that NotebookLM became Gemini Notebook in July 2026, that it is the same product, and that existing notebooks remain fully accessible. The company also describes a shift from a standalone app toward an integrated workspace across its AI products, while keeping the standalone web and mobile experience.
