About Vellum
Vellum is a personal AI assistant that runs on your own machine or in the cloud and works on your behalf across your files, calendar, email and other tools. It is built around long term memory, so the assistant retains your preferences, people, projects and past conversations and stays reachable from any device or browser with the same identity and history.
The assistant can send emails, manage a calendar, browse the web, create slides, write code, run deep research, monitor websites and carry out recurring tasks in the background. It ships with built in skills for Google Workspace, Slack, Notion and the local filesystem, and can be extended with community plugins or custom skills. Users can switch between models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini, or run open weight models through Ollama. A permissions system asks for approval before higher risk actions until the user marks them as trusted, and the vendor states that it cannot access user data unless the user opts in. The company also offers Ambient, an on screen voice collaborator.
Vellum is aimed at individuals and professionals who want an assistant that acts rather than only answers in a chat window. The vendor states that the assistant software is open source and can be self hosted on your own hardware, a VPS or a private cloud with no platform fee, with a Mac download and a GitHub repository linked from the pricing page.
Pricing is published. A free start is offered, then hosted plans at $30 per month for Mighty (1 vCPU, 2 GiB memory, 10 GB storage), $100 per month for Super (2.5 vCPU, 5 GiB, 30 GB, plus an assistant email address and subdomain) and $200 per month for Ultra (4 vCPU, 8 GiB, 60 GB, plus email and subdomain). A custom plan can be configured. Usage is billed in credits at $1 per credit for things like AI responses, web searches and image generation.
