About Cleft
Cleft is a voice first note taking app for Apple devices. You record a rambling thought, it transcribes the audio on the device, and it turns the transcript into a structured note with the main points and action items pulled out. A dial chooses the shape of the result: clear sections with bullet points, the same structure written as flowing prose, or a cleaned up transcript that stays close to what you actually said.
It is built for people who think faster than they type, and the founders describe themselves as neurodivergent and building for disabled users. Capture works offline across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and CarPlay, in 99 languages, including switching language mid sentence. Finished notes can stay in the app with tags, search and a Markdown editor, or be sent on to Notion, Apple Notes, Apple Reminders, Apple Journal, Obsidian, Bear, Craft, Capacities, NotePlan, Drafts, Ulysses, Logseq, iA Writer, Things 3, Todoist and Zapier. Transcription happens locally and signed in notes sync securely, which is the privacy argument the company leads with against voice apps that upload audio.
There are two plans. Basic costs nothing and covers on device transcription, structured notes, five minute recordings, the three built in output styles, auto copy, local sync, tags, search, export, widgets, Siri and Shortcuts. Cleft Plus is $6.99 per month or $39.99 per year and raises recordings to thirty minutes, then adds custom AI instructions of up to 500 characters, custom output styles, appending to an existing note, attachments, password protected share links, the Notion and Zapier integrations, Family Sharing for up to five people and early access to new features through TestFlight. Billing runs through the App Store, and the site notes that prices are in US dollars and may vary by region.
